many young people on the West and South sides of Chicago don’t expect they may live long anyway. Therefore, they live for today. It’s a vicious cycle problem.

I question the 1000 figure. Maybe several hundred, but it’s hard to imagine a house big enough on the West Side that could contain a thousand people. There are some beautiful old row homes in that area, but they’re on the typical narrow Chicago lot, side by side. So unless this involved several contiguous houses, I doubt the 1,000 number is accurate.
