Midway Atoll is full of them. During WWII US soldiers were often entertained by them. The Midway submarine base used the old PanAm hotel, left over from the 1930's during the PanAm Clipper era, as their rest camp. It was renamed "Gooneyville Lodge" in honor of the native birds.

As the WWII vets said, "The gooney birds are everywhere."
