... but was denied to run because he had no law enforcement experience.
Ventura County prosecutors filed felony charges against a
Chatsworth man and former local candidate they say submitted fictitious voter registration applications to elections officials prior to the Nov. 5 general election.
Bruce Boyer, 63, appeared in court Wednesday for four felony counts of perjury, the Ventura County District Attorney's Office said in a news release Wednesday evening. No plea was entered during arraignment in Ventura County Superior Court.
Boyer previously made local news when
attempting to run for Ventura County sheriff without law enforcement experience, an effort
denied by a state appeals court in 2019. More recently, Boyer was
a candidate in the March primary for the 26th Congressional District seat held by Julia Brownley but
didn't advance to the general election.
Joey Buttitta, a spokesperson for the district attorney's office, confirmed Wednesday the defendant was the same Boyer who ran for sheriff. https://www.vcstar.com/story/news/local/2024/12/04/former-sheriffs-candidate-accused-of-voter-registration-fraud/76783976007/

Man who questions official version of Borderline shooting arrested at memorial dedication
A man who questions part of the official version of last year's Borderline mass shooting that killed 12 people was arrested for allegedly disturbing Thursday's dedication of the permanent memorial to the victims, a misdemeanor.
Bruce Boyer, who has tried unsuccessfully to run for Ventura County sheriff, got up on stage shortly before the ceremony began at Conejo Creek Park North in Thousand Oaks and started speaking through a megaphone.
His words, met with boos from some in attendance, were largely inaudible because of recorded music being played over them.
To cheers from some in the audience, Boyer was soon escorted off the stage by sheriff's deputies, arrested on suspicion of disturbing an assembly or meeting, issued a citation and released, said Sgt. Marta Bugarin, a spokesperson for the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
