BENSON – Although the name of the woman who died Memorial Day in a DPS trooper-involved shooting is now known, no details have been released about what precipitated the shooting during a traffic stop on Interstate 10 east of Benson or even if the woman was a driver or passenger.

According to an Arizona Department of Public Safety press statement, the agency’s Major Incident Division is investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting of Berkleigh Jade Bond around 8 a.m. May 25.

Bond, 39, was from Wichita Falls, TX. She is survived by three children, according to social media postings by her friends.

Details as to whether the traffic stop of a white sedan on westbound I-10 was a routine, random activity or undertaken due to targeted surveillance of the car or Bond were not available Thursday, a DPS spokesperson noted in reply to questions from Herald/Review Media.
