they are nice - especially going up and around posts or on a trellis but they can be aggressive growers if they like where they are. Of course the hummers love anything that has tubular flowers like that!

The early migrators will even nectar on lilac blossoms. About a dozen years ago, I finally saw one on my mother's hosta blooms. First time I witnessed that as I was always hearing that they will use hosta flowers. I have some hostas that are late bloomers and have seen a stray here and there go for it when it blooms. Of course salvias are another good one and you should be able to winter over a Salvia Black and Blue (an absolute hummer favorite) in the ground where you are if you mulch it well (it's just that they bloom so late). They will also do tiny tiny tubes like those on pentas and even bee balm (Jacob Cline being a red one that is a fave).
