3. In the photos app, click your account avatar on the top right. Click Photos settings

Click Backup. Go through each setting on the page--selecting the quality and which folders you want automatically backed up, but also be mindful of the fact that there is a storage limit. I have unlimited but if you don't, that could be why. Despite having unlimited storage, I use the Storage Saver setting because you never know if you might have to switch storage providers one day.
