5. Such a great (and depressing!) song. I remember the first time I heard it...

...the DJ said "you can tell they've been listening to a lot of Roxy Music". Now I had hardly heard anything by Roxy Music back then; they were a little before my time. But I started checking out their back catalogue (and Bryan Ferry's solo work) soon afterward. It wasn't long before Avalon became one of my favorite records (still is).

Here's a little back story on the music video for this one (also on YouTube). Timothy Hutton was the director; he would steal Ric Ocasek's cigarettes, because the withdrawal put Ocasek in a really foul mood. That was exactly where Hutton wanted him to be to play the character in the video. Terry Gilliam did the same thing to Brad Pitt for several scenes in 12 Monkeys.
