...the invention of electricity or the internal combustion engine. And certainly before the invention of the Internet.

Did you know that Tchaikovsky traveled from Russia to conduct one of his works for the grand opening of Carnegie Hall? Imagine a grand concert hall hosting a conductor from half the world away, all before the invention of the electric light, let alone the airplane. And those concert-goers arriving in their horse-dawn carriages. What a fantastic evening that must have been.

(Just to put modern technology in perspective.)
