Battling ear worms... [View all]

There's a local accounting company that runs television ads with a jingle that keeps getting stuck in my head and driving me NUTS! I'm already crazy enough as it is, so I always frantically reach for the remote and the mute button whenever that ad comes on. Which is often.

And often I don't hit the mute button fast enough. This morning I woke up with that maddening advertising jingle bouncing around inside my head. Please, God, MAKE IT STOP!

Well, because God wasn't making it stop, I turned on my computer, found a You Tube recording of Sibelius' "The Swan of Tuonela", and listened to it -- not once, not twice, but FIVE times straight.

It worked! And what a pleasant way to solve that problem. I've always loved that piece. There's something haunting and fascinating and utterly captivating about it.
