(59,925 posts)81. Paregoric was also used to induce vomiting. When I was very young I remember it in the first aid case . Believe it or
not, it could be bought over the counter at the local drug store. I remember the name as my brother took children's aspirins and my mother gave him some. He vomited. In my second generation Eastern European extended family. hospitals were looked at as places where people went to die not be saved. I can also remember codeine in cough syrup. No scrips for either.
