11. I have a bad back and bad hips as well (bursitis, not arthritis).

I limit manually wood splitting if pain requires it, but I must admit I still split manually since over the decades I've found it a tremendous stress reliever.

Funny story: My son and his girlfriend are both finishing up Ph.D degrees in nuclear engineering, but she, unlike him, grew up in a relatively rural area. Last winter I was teaching him to split wood with an axe, and during the lesson he made a point of calling his girlfriend to let her know he was engaged in the manly art of wood splitting. I was, to say the least, amused.
