Frosted with Ermine Frosting and even more coconut pressed onto the top and sides.
Boiled custard is a deep seated holiday tradition in Kentucky and Tennessee; it is a substitute for egg nog. In the old days, egg nog was eggs whipped with whiskey (which kills any bad stuff in the raw eggs), then folded together with whipped cream and meringue. More whiskey added to one's glass if desired
Well those teetotaling Baptists in KY & TN weren't having that so they made boiled custard, which is a thin drinkable custard heavily flavored with vanilla and cooked carefully so it doesn't get too thick. The only thing I can compare it to is zabaglioni. It is divine. When I was growing up, just about any time you opened a refrigerator around the holidays there would be a Mason jar of boiled custard. (those teetotallng old ladies in my family still had to have their teaspoon of "flavoring" which was Bourbon.
