with reality. Cognitive dissonance can only go so far to maintain the illusions that kept the Trump movement going. The high is ending, the bills are coming due, and the train-wreck is spilling not just over the rails but also all over the right-of-way and well onto either side.

I find myself wondering if I have any compassion for the people who deluded themselves into voting for Trump in 2024 or told themselves that staying home and not voting Democratic wouldn’t have any negative consequences. Right now I don’t: they brought this on themselves as well as on the rest of us. I think they need to go through the painful consequences. The burned hand teaches best.
