What the unnamed staffer said is neither Trump saying he'd agree to meet with her now, nor to accept the prize from her now. The assertion is "past tense".

And unless Trump was the number 2 vote getter (which is entirely unknown) it was not even in her power to "give it to him", at least not officially. I suppose she could hand him the plaque or trophy or whatever they get, but it would not be officially recognized by the Committee, it would still have her name on it, etc. He doesn't care about that, he wants his name in the history books, not a meaningless trinket.

And on top of that Trump doesn't have the power to declare her to be the President of Venezuela.

The whole idea is preposterous to the point that I consider it just another gaslighting, especially towards Machado herself
