if I go into another room at home, how the hell are those parking lot scanners able to pick it up?!?

And dont pet chips have to be scanned by a device like within inches of the tag?

IOW, are all these devices really putting off strong enough signals, or is it that sensors have become so sensitive?? If so, lost chipped pets should no longer be a thing, since every chipped pet can be instantly located, right?

What am I missing here?
