But after the Taj was taken over by Carl Icahn from 45, they started offering cheap room rates through GroupOn and one of my sisters was able to get an ocean front room for a weekend with my niece for like $60/night.

Icahn eventually sold it to Hard Rock and that's what's there now (right across from Steel Pier)!
