Politics is cutthroat. There are many opportunists there. It will depend on whether one of the underlings decides to challenge the Alpha to take over.

In the Animal Kingdom, that is standard - one will make the attempt if they see the Alpha is "weak". IOW, there may be a "Brutus" among the bunch but I have no idea who that might be.
