Because the final version of the defense authorization bill was stripped down to basics, it was one of several provisions struck. But it wasn't controversial when it was considered in 2024 and it wasn't controversial when it was included in the 2025 legislation as introduced in July and ultimately passed in December.

Draft Registration doesn't make you eligible to be drafted into military service. It instead includes your name among

Do they still use draft cards ? I would think getting one of those in the mail would raise a lot of questions ....

So they won't automatically register eligible people to vote, but they'll automatically register them for the draft
