Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton rebuked President Trump for his 2027 budget proposal and warned of negative ramifications for families in a new op-ed published in The New York Times on Thursday.

The $1.5 trillion request, which comes amid the Trump administration’s strikes against Iran, suggests bolstered funding for defense spending and $73 billion in cuts to housing, health care, social services and other nondefense programs.

Clinton criticized the president’s comment during a private Easter brunch that his administration is “fighting wars” and “can’t take care of daycare.” “This isn’t surprising coming from a president who has dismissed America’s affordability crisis as a ‘hoax’ and a ‘con job,’” Clinton wrote. “For most parents, the crunch is all too real. Our kids will pay the price for the president’s indifference.”

Trump’s former presidential challenger cited rising costs of childcare in the U.S. in her argument against the administration’s proposed cuts.
