Two Teamsters’ Cannery Workers’ Union jobs allowed our family to afford to buy a car and a house and live a solid subsistence life.
I always wonder at the logic behind not joining a Union. I think those that refuse don’t really comprehend the dynamic they are trapped in. When you are one puny little man, you have NO power at all, except to take what’s on offer. And, because everybody else has your same clout, conditions and compensation NEVER CHANGE, unless the bosses suffer a stroke and somehow give a fuck.
Almost every group forced to defend themselves organizes and strategizes in order to successfully prevail.
AND… every Corporation that ever was is a group that organizes and strategizes in order to successfully prevail.
The Boy David and his sling might have stopped the Giant, but his story is so unbelievable they had to build a Religion around it.
We can’t all be Audie Murphy and stare-down a tank with our side-arm.
That’s why "We’re Better Together” is True.
Having the Intelligence to learn to work together is often cited as the trait that saved our species from extinction long enough for us to be able to bring it about ourselves.
Unions are good for Workers.
That’s why they’re reviled so by The Bosses
