Killed a few of the top religious leaders in Iran?
They just moved up one rung on the promotion ladder with no effect on their grip on power.

Worse, it just increases their desire to strike back, both in the Middle East and perhaps on US soil.

The president of Iran isn't 'new' as Trump claims and he has no power anyway.
