Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for a missile launched at Israel, marking the Iranian-backed militia’s first attack in the fast-expanding war. A military spokesman for the Houthis said the group had carried out “the first military operation using a barrage of ballistic missiles targeting sensitive Israeli military sites.”

Israel’s military said on social media that it had identified a missile launched from Yemen and “intercepted the threat” with aerial defense systems. There were no immediate reports of deaths or injuries.

Houthis Attack Israel for First Time Since Iran War Began

Israel says it intercepted missile fired by the Tehran-backed Yemeni militants; in Saudi Arabia, Iranian strike wounds 12 U.S. troops

Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi militants attacked Israel for the first time since the war broke out, after sitting out the conflict throughout its first month. The Israeli military said it spotted a missile launched from Yemen and “intercepted the threat.”

The attack followed an Iranian missile strike on the Prince Sultan air base in Saudi Arabia on Friday, which wounded American troops and damaged several U.S. refueling aircraft, according to U.S. and Saudi officials.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the biggest challenge once the war ends would be preventing Iran from imposing tolls on ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz, calling the prospect illegal and “dangerous to the world.” He also said the war would go on another two to four weeks.
