The infrastructure and oppressive might of the IRGC/Basij gets way too little attention. They effectively operate independent of Ayatollah rule, and are nothing like the more traditional Iranian territorial defense force (which is the Artesh).

The notion that decapitating the leadership would somehow enable regime change was an insane product of a madman delusions..
