2. I'm guessing that Trump got this idea for putting up so many monuments

to himself from the Charlottesville decision to remove the statue of Robert E. Lee.

In his demented mind, if you put up so many Trump monuments, you won't be able to take them all down.

Trump sees this country, particularly D.C. as a tableau for his tattoo. (Notice that he hasn't tried this in New York, New York, save for the monstrosity on Fifth Avenue.)
