The United States is a big country and it's starting to look like we're irretrievably divided.
I understand that it's not really a red state/blue state divide. It's actually a rural/urban divide. Democrats in SC, AR, and WY are just as true blue as the ones in NY, CA, and VT.
But at some point people in states that consistently elect progressives are going to get tired of being bullied by the morons who keep getting elected in deep red states. Being a deep red state now means that the state's leaders don't believe in science, medicine, education, a postal service, a national weather service, or any other public goods. And those voters have an outsize influence on national elections. I have a lot of sympathy for people stuck there. I'm one myself, here in purple N.C. with a MAGAT state legislature pushing everyone around. But this can't go on. We have options.
California alone has one of the world's largest GDP. The digital age means we don't have to contiguous (Alaska and Hawaii aren't anyway).
Imagine a nation made up of CA, HI, WA, MN, MI, NY and the rest of the northeast, VA, NM, and CO - maybe more. That country would be a powerhouse. It would include leading research institutions, medical systems, and strong economies. And many of those states are refuges from climate change.
The economic disparity with the remaining states would be stark. This new blue nation's economic, health, education, and every quality of life indicator would far exceed even that of the current U.S.
I never thought I'd even consider this but I've simply had it with being ruled by morons who are dismantling civilization. Since they won't move to Russia, let them have their own country and sit in their own squalor and ignorance. I'm that angry.
