Was/would have been running for an unprecedented (but not unlawful) third term as governor. I have no idea of what the sentiment of such a thing is in Minnesota, but he was going to try to do something no other Minnesota governor did (not unlike the old unwritten rule amongst presidents of following the Washington example prior to 1940).
