I believe our current point is exactly where species stumble and cannot progress.
And in fact destroy themselves over and over.

Post industrial world where global oligarchs unite to become extremely
powerful and wealthy. They own the world and destroy it with their lust
and greed for money and power.

I wonder how many times humans on Earth have reached this point
and then had to start all over again?

Yep not a great time line is it?
