"State and local jurisdictions are at liberty to not enforce Federal laws, including immigration laws; state and local jurisdictions cannot be compelled to enforce Federal laws, or be forced to cooperate with Federal enforcement agencies, including the enforcement of immigration laws."

This is why 40 states have been able to legalize the sale and use of medical marijuana within their borders and 24 states have done the same for recreational marijuana. If the federal government could force states to enforce all federal laws, it would no longer be possible for dispensaries to operate legally in any state, even those who want them to be able to do so. That means over 16,000 (per Google AI) now legally operating businesses would be forced to shut down.

Requiring states and localities to enforce immigration laws would not just be terrible in itself. It would create a ripple effect that would affect all kinds of other things. I don't know what all of the effects would be, but I'm sure they would reach far beyond just marijuana dispensaries.
