This would normally be a routine thing between a couple of publishers. But the Nazi government sent Tolkien a letter asking if he had any Jewish ancestry. He wanted to reply "sadly, no, but it's outrageous that you ask this"; in the end he and his publishers just never replied, so no translation appeared until the Nazis had been obliterated.

This insistence on everyone carrying out MAGA's prejudices for them is like the Nazis trying to get everyone to be antisemitic.
