But it is the correct way to illustrate that gas is actually much cheaper today than it was in the good old days when "gas was cheap". And I also I think my econ professor(s) and my other professors at the UW-EC School of Business would agree with me and would also agree that they taught me well.

I can't worry about what a bunch of dummies think anymore. There's nothing anyone can do to help them understand things like this (see: you can't fix stupid). Hell, half of them (or more?) probably would believe that a Polar Bear's natural diet is ice cream if they heard it on FOX...
