At 88, she can't move. Plus all my wife' friends are now in our area, many within a few meters of where we live. She has been living full time in our little town north of Düsseldorf for half her life now. It's a town both our children have always considered their first home. I would have nothing against moving away from the German and EU bureaucracy, but I can't ask her to give her life up just like that. Should that change, I will polish up my Schwyzerdüütsch and after 40 years of occasional visits for work, I can already handle most of it, though don't ask me to be fluent in Uri or Appenzell Mundart just yet!
