(19,818 posts)It was repeatedly, REPEATEDLY explained to them in every possible way and by every possible method, AND they lived through it once, and then they did it again.
There is no believable "oh, I made a mistake, and I understand that now" for situations like that. It just doesn't fit with all of the other evidence/behavior. This wasn't "a mistake" and it wasn't accidental or incidental brief behavior. It was a persistent way of being, year on year, for a decade in many cases.
Regrets are not remorse. They have regrets, certainly. Claims of remorse, genuine fucking remorse (such as characterized by empathetic recognition of having caused harm to others and emotional distress at having failed moral standards), are not plausible. So fuck them, no forgiving and no forgetting.
