I've noted before that I played a role in getting Rubin Carter's contribution to a book by a professor at Binghamton University. Rubin wrote about the power of forgiveness. In this context, I'm not talking about "forgiving" any maga individual who still supports the felon. There are many who now realize that they had been fooled into supporting him. They have changed their minds. Rubin's friend Malcolm X said that you have to give people room to change. I find those who insist they will never forgive to be shallow when compared to Rubin and Malcolm. It's not that I don't understand their thinking, for I do see the stumbling blocks that prevent them from becoming fully human. I do, but I hope that they can find their way beyond that, rather than being stuck in an unhealthy way.
