...it will usher in "the rapture" where where living believers and resurrected dead believers are supernaturally taken up into the clouds to meet Jesus. The mid-terms are just her excuse to make it seem like a normal thought process.
But there is nothing normal about the way people like Bachman "think".
The most popular view in American evangelicalism is pre-tribulation which holds that "the rapture" will occur before a seven-year period of global tribulation allowing believers to escape the wrath to come. So, they believe that something really bad has to happen to the world to make "the rapture" happen.
And, you may wonder what Israel--the people that don't believe in Jesus' holiness--have to do with any of that insanity, but most evangelicals believe the modern State of Israel plays a foundational role in end-times prophecy.
The establishment of Israel in 1948 is widely seen by evangelicals as a literal fulfillment of biblical prophecy, signaling that the "end times clock" has started.
While the rapture removes Christians from Earth, Israel is believed to take center stage during the subsequent "Tribulation". In evangelicals' fever dreams, Israel will face a massive coalition of invading armies (often interpreted as nations like Russia or Iran) culminating in the Battle of Armageddon. They believe that during this period, the nation of Israel will suffer immense trials but ultimately experience mass spiritual awakening and accept Jesus as the Messiah. This drives significant, active support for the nation of Israel among evangelical communities.
Go figure....
So are we really to believe that god wants more dead Iranians just for Republicans to win the mid-terms? Yeah...no--that's not what she believes this is about.
IMO the whole thing is sick. There is something deeply wrong with the Michelle Bachmans of the world.
