Oh goody! Our president only has mild-to-moderate dementia. [View all]

The world can breath a sigh of relief.

If they are giving him the standard 30-question MMSE, which sounds like the one they have repeatedly administered, it is designed to detect moderate-to-severe dementia.

As he crows about passing the test, what he is saying is that we should be pleased our president has mild-to-moderate dementia.

And it is pretty clear they think he is in the mild-to-moderate range or they wouldn't keep checking to see if he has progressed to the moderate-to-severe stage.

I suppose it is possible they are giving him the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), which is designed to detect earlier signs, but somehow I doubt it

On edit: Turns out it is the MoCA he's getting. Sorry for the false assumption. See Ms. Toad's post below.
