Ricketts/Nebraska sponsored a bill last year that would help prevent China or any other country to buy farmland. It was called the AFIDA Improvements Act and it would "equip the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to combat foreign adversaries’ ownership of American agricultural land." Link.

Look who the sponsors are:

Senators Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), John Fetterman (D-PA), Roger Wicker (R-MS), John Cornyn (R-TX), and Katie Britt (R-AL) are original co-sponsors of this legislation in the Senate. Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) is leading companion legislation in the House.

To say this will not go over well is putting it mildly.

BTW, I don't think this act has passed yet. It is still in committee, if I'm reading it right.
