In reply to the discussion: Platner is fundraising by dissing Democrats [View all]Celerity
(54,650 posts)68. Curious claim. What's your definition of 'wipe the floor with him'? He's been up by large levels in most all the polls
for months and months now.
I understand why many here do not like Platner, but those who are 'Never-Platner' should be upset perhaps with the parts of the Democratic power structure, both nationally (in terms of Schumer and Gillibrand going all in on Mills and Mills alone), and then the Maine state Democratic party itself, for also failing to recruit a better candidate than Mills to take on Platner.
I myself preferred Jordan Wood, but he chose to drop out of the US Senate race and run for Maine-02 in the US House after the conservadem Jared Golden (who years ago stopped even bothering to attend Dem caucus House meetings and who had, pretty likely, the worst voting record of any Dem currently in the House IMHO) chose to retire.
That all said, Janet MIlls is, at the end of the day, really looking like (as I predicted before she even announced her Senate run) a poor candidate to take on a Platner-type, ie an insurgent, a non traditional candidate, in the Dem primary, especially in today's political environment, and especially in Maine, which is tricky state to win in.
I laid out why, IMHO, that is so, here, in a reply to another OP:

in the Democratic primary (which is being shown in the polls).
For instance: Mills is pro filibuster, she is anti-decriminalisation for small personal use amounts of drugs, she has been anti red-flag laws for guns, she has vetoed collective bargaining rights (so is anti-union to an impactful degree), she has vetoed wealth taxes, she has vetoed protections for renters, and she has vetoed some tribal sovereignty laws, etc.
All of that is not even taking into account she would be 85yo at the the end of her first term if she were to win both the primary and the general election. She would be the oldest ever newly elected first term US Senator in American history.
If a person is anti-Platner (and that is a valid stance IMHO, given his baggage), then I would think they must be very unhappy with Mills being their only other main choice (and Schumer and Gillibrand helping to make sure she was and is the only other main option, as they pushed hard to recruit her and only her).

I think most Democrats believe Republicans are doing absolutely nothing to fight Trump's slide into fascism.

The rule is that only people from the working class can understand economic inequality. Total BS of course.

"Drain the swamp" of elites, supporters think he's honest and "tells it like it is." Sounds familiar.

But there are so many timid candidates who won't even say there are justices who *should* be impeached.

I wouldn't vote for him unless it appears he can get Concerned and Corrupt Susan out.
