Then you don't actually know what it's good at (and what it isn't) from experience, like I do.
I totally GET not using AI based on the principles and criticisms you espouse, more power to you, you know I respect that
But AI can go out and browse the web for information about a plant for me, look at publicly available information, and aggregate it and present it to me pretty remarkably accurately, in like 1/100th the time it would take me to do so. It finds the exact same stuff I would find if I used Google.
And generally, the argument that one should not use it because it's "too flawed", I'm a bit less onboard, because I actually use it regularly. Seems to me like all you ever read is the bad stuff, because hating on AI is your focus. It's actually pretty damn good at certain things. Programming is another of those things, as we've discussed. And we needn't go round on this again, we know where each other stands.
My belief is that society *needs* much, much better regulation on this tech. It's been rolled out to the public WAY too fast, without anybody properly studying the potential deleterious effects.
To your point, all the models that HAVE been trained on *stolen* materials need to be burned to the ground and rebuilt WITHOUT doing so, for starters
They do not fundamentally *need* to steal anything to be extremely effective.
Next, people's JOBS need to be protected.
Allowing them to give medical advice is the next thing that should be regulated.
And they should not be allowed to strike an obsequious, friendly tone in an attempt to get you to like them, we're already seeing dire outcomes from this, right and left. Lot of lonely people in the world, who feel misunderstood end up addicted to ChatGPT in particular.
As an aside, what I like about Claude (and I give them a bit of money every month cause I use it for work) is that it NEVER polishes my knob, about anything, and is a very dry, no nonsense tool.. It doesn't try to be my friend or "addict" me to using it. Gemini, which I also use, is closer to Claude in this way vs. ChatGPT, but not as dry as Claude.
I will NOT use ChatGPT on principle, because I find it highly unethical the way it tries to "hook" customers. And I try to avoid any questions that would require the AI to leverage copyrighted materials/stolen intellectual property.
You have your principles, and I have mine
