(44,968 posts)76. I vividly remember the Cuban missile crisis. I was about 12.
Ill never forget the fear in the pit of my stomach in those days. We did air raid drills under our desks and everything. We were living very close to a major Air Force base. My uncle, who lived nearby, had been a pilot in World War II and had a fully stocked fallout shelter in his basement.
