It is a simple supply and demand issue.

He, Putin, is in much better shape with oil at $120 dollars a barrel than at $60 dollars a barrel. With a low supply, he needs higher prices for the demand. Trump is doing that for him.

All the reasons that have been stated for going to war are flimsy, at best.

If the price of oil had not gone up, Putin could very well be in a real bind in Ukraine and at home.

Russia is just a gas station with an army, paraphrasing John McCain.
