Newsom's decisions and actions have been noticed. It matters where and when one is willing to fight. (Btw, that's not "undermining," that's just observation.)

None of that is to say that the millions of people who care about trans folk - as well as trans folks - will vote Rethug. Yet it certainly impacts commitment, enthusiasm, and trust for whatever emerges going forward.

Once a party decides who and who does not "deserve" civil rights and equal access to the benefits of community, that's hard to repair, and harder still to keep from spreading to other groups.
