8. It's equivalent to the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The Soviet Union went out with a whimper but the collapse was extensive. Unfortunately, Russia did not restructure the political process as much as was necessary to complete a transition to democracy.

So far, the ongoing collapse of the American Empire has been gradual, but that could change to "all at once" at any moment. We're faced with the same problem as Russia, though. We need to reform the political process - the Constitution - to support a full democracy. Right now we're going in the opposite direction, but the collapse has not been completed.
