Or at least a belief that they might refuse, based on objections brought forward by those who have been fired.

For example, that Army Chaplain may have commented negatively on Hegseth's public statement about not allowing any Roman Catholic Good Friday service at the Pentagon. That's Hegseth and dominionistic leaders' doing. They're not fans, especially with Pope Leo making negative statements about various Trump decisions.

That's my sense of it, anyhow.
