9. War and Terror create hate faster than good people can process and defuse in peace.

The people of Israel — and the people of Iran — have every right in the world to defend themselves from those who would kill or cause them harm.

I’m saying war, terror, violence and the hatreds they engender will only build, unless we learn to respect one another, first as enemies, then as opponents, then as competitors, then as neighboring rival…with the idea of, one day, becoming friends.

Without that respect, the only process that leads to peace will be lost. And the alternative, death, leaves the survivors lonely for those they’ve lost.

Take Benjamin Netanyahu: Bibi misses his brother, Yoni, who died leading the rescue at Entebbe in 1976. Losing a brother to hate would make my heart hate those responsible, too. What I’m trying to communicate is that we must stop our hate from controlling our actions.

All the oil in the world won’t bring him back, nor will it bring back the schoolgirls killed by Trump’s attack. The only thing we can do is stop the killing now — while we can — and do all we can to build a better future for the world’s children.
