Then he went on to study with some kind of positive thinking guru (read that as charlatan), mix it with the very toxic teachings of Roy Cohn of never admitting fault or taking responsibility, and voilà! We get the pathological liar and cheating con man, who thinks he can create reality just by insisting his version exists.
Add in the bigoted idiot rubes who want the fantasies that he's selling, and here we are.
