Madison Cawthorn's comeback attempt met with mixed reception from Republicans [View all]

Former Rep. Madison Cawthorn’s (R-N.C.) comeback House bid in Florida is being met with skepticism from some Republicans, who doubt he will be able to win.

The 30-year-old Cawthorn, once seen as a rising star after winning a House seat in North Carolina, saw his reputation in the GOP tarnished amid negative headlines. He is now running in the crowded primary for Rep. Byron Donalds’s (R) seat in southwest Florida.

While Cawthorn has his fans because he’s a MAGA loyalist, some members of his party argue he faces a steep climb as he seeks to rehabilitate his political career.

“It’s a mixed bag,” said Mercedes Price-Harry, chair of the Lee County Republican Executive Committee and Donalds’s district director, regarding Cawthorn’s reception in the state.
