MI-SEN: Rogers, Stevens tied in Michigan U.S. Senate matchup, poll finds [View all]

epublican Mike Rogers and Democrat Haley Stevens are effectively tied in the race for Michigan's open U.S. Senate seat, a new statewide survey found, with Rogers showing a slight edge in the hypothetical matchup.

The survey of 600 likely Michigan voters found 44.1% favoring Rogers and 43.7% backing Stevens ― a difference of less than half a percentage point that falls within the poll's margin of error of 4 percentage points.

About 12% of voters were undecided. The telephone poll was conducted Jan. 2-6 for The Detroit News and WDIV-TV (Channel 4)

Stevens, a four-term congresswoman from Birmingham, fared the best among the three Democratic U.S. Senate candidates in hypothetical matchups against Rogers of White Lake Township, in part because she was the only Democrat matching his appeal among independent voters.
