Latest from someone on the ground in Venezuela [View all]

[11:25 AM, 1/9/2026] franchesca: The streets are still worse than before. Many people are being detained for phone checks. My country is getting worse every day. A kilo of chicken meat is $40 usd, rice is $5 usd. My family is going to starve.
[11:26 AM, 1/9/2026] franchesca: With $100 they paid the taxi driver and bought gasoline. The gasoline cost $40. So there was nothing left. The generator hasn't arrived, the taxi driver hasn't been able to leave, and there are many soldiers in the streets.

( there is intermittent to no electricity after the bombing in Caracas so this family is trying to get a generator that was left by this relative in a city about 200 km away from Caracas )

With the ICE shooting and the threats to Greenland, the Maduro government is still in charge of Venezuela and is arresting and sometimes shooting people with anti Maduro messages on their phones. Inflation is out of control, food is scarce, medicine even more so. This is Pottery Barn on steroids and the USA is ignoring the issue completely.
