9. I sponsor a Venezuelan woman

who protested the last Maduro election. She became a target of the security police. Harassed, and put in a local jail for a short time.

She fled Venezuela for Chile where she now lives and works as a civil engineer.

She hates Maduro and his police state. For good reason. I'm sure I will hear from her today about how happy she is.

But... what she wants is a stable country, free elections, and oil revenue to create a better society. Better schools, better hospitals, etc. And to diversify the Venezuelan economy.

But I don't see that as a likely outcome. Oil riches attract the wrong sort of people... Russia, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran are all proof of that.
