A disease's R-naught is its basic reproduction number, a measure of its transmissibility. COVID-19's initial R-naught was about 2.5-3.5, meaning one infected person would infect about 2-3 others. Later strains like Omicron climbed to around 10.

Seasonal flu's R-naught is generally about 1.3.

The R-naught for measles is 12-18.
